Pole Shift
According to The Book of Noah and the writings of Plato, the Earth once sat in a more upright position. This upright position would have placed the North American Glacial ice pack as much as 2,000 miles further north than it is today. During the Ice Age the sea level was as much as three to five hundred feet lower than today due to the fact that the Glacier held all of that water. A great deal of land would have been exposed due to this lower sea level. The poles can shift but crustal displacement is an even bigger event.
As you can see we have had a lot of pole wander lately. Pole shifts have happened before and will happen again. The last Great Pole Shift happend 780,000 years ago.

The sun is due to shift its poles in 2012. The sun reverses its magnetic field like clockwork every eleven years at the peak of the sunspot cycle. We are now entering sunspot cycle 24. In the past century there has been a decline of earth's magnetic field by five percent down to only 0.5 gauss. The weakening of earth's magnetism is one of the factors which lead up to a pole reversal. Magnetic field reversals have occurred in the past and are confirmed in geological records. When the magnetic field weakens more, the atmosphere will no longer be able to filter out deadly solar radiation which will kill most living creatures on the surface. Only those having shelter deep within caves are safe. Magnetic poles have wandered across the equator at least three times in the past.
December 21, 2012, a pole shift and the change in the earths magnetic grid will allow solar flares to penetrate. Evidence of reversals in the geomagnetic field indicates 200 reversals over the last 178 million years. Over the last 70 million years, polarity reversals have been increasing. This includes 33 reversals in the last 25 million years. There have been 9 major reversals in the past 3.6 million years ( averages one every 400,000 years), with the most recent one, 780,000 years ago. There is evidence of a looping excursion by the geomagnetic field some 28,000 years ago.
The crustal displacement and movement of the techtonic plates along with the Earths electomagnetic field reversal will be intense. Stay away from all electronics / electrical devices, and seek shelter away from faultlines and underground to protect yourself from radiation poisoning. Communications will be shut down. Modern cars are all computerized and electronic...so simply put they will not work. Prepare by having an old school car / truck without electronic ignition prepared. Keep the battery stored underground.

Just as air moves in opposite directions between the northern and southern hemispheres, the weather patterns will also shift with a pole reversal. Areas that are fertile will become like deserts and some deserts will once again become fertile. Look at the ancient sites in Iran, Iraq, even Egypt.. do you really think that prior civilizations chose desert areas to build the greatest civilizations of ancient times?
