The last great transitions took place 25800 years ago and 12900 years ago.. Before those times, large underground systems were built to protect man from dangers involved in the transitions through the galactic plane. There are amazing cities underground in all continents of the world. We will start with the most ancient and work forward. The ancient underground cities and tunnels were constructed long before our "modern machinery". Caves is southern Europe were uses during the last cosmic showers by Shamans. Photons penetrated the earth and the Shamans would  watch the show.

Underground Shelters
Russia is building a huge underground city to hold 60,000 people, the YAMANTAU Mt Complex. This is a sprawling underground complex that spans an area as large as Washington, D.C.  It is believed to be large enough to house 60,000 persons, with a special air filtration system designed to withstand a nuclear, chemical or biological attack. Enough food and water is believed to be stored at the site to sustain the entire underground population for months on end. They have very large train tracks running in and out of it, with enormous rooms carved inside the mountain. It has been built to resist a half dozen direct nuclear hits, one after the other in a direct hole.
The vast cave system in Turkey housed small cities complete with sustainable living for periods of increased Cosmic Radiation. If you want to survive you need to have protection.

The USA has over 100 underground shelters. Russia has many other small complexes which will hold almost 1/2 of their population. Sweden and Finland have many underground shelters for large portions of their populations. China and North Korea have a number also, but the most impressive is Switzerland which has underground shelters and supplies for 100% of their country's population.
